HKA’s Class of 2024 have just completed Senior Week. The purpose of Senior Week is for the cohort to pause, review and critically think about where they are in their learning journey. It allows our students to take ownership of their own pathway to individual excellence and to engage in work that is meaningful and tailored to them. Students are able to effectively reflect and identify the academic priorities that they need to focus on – making the week productive, engaging and self-directed.
The premise of Senior Week is to establish a feeling of achievement and success so as to encourage intrinsic motivation moving forwards for the remainder of their final few months before graduation. They are able to complete goals for the Global Citizen Diploma, generate evidence and reflections for the IBDP Creativity, Activity and Service projects, and progress personal statements and applications for their chosen post-secondary plans.
Towards the end of January, our Class of 2024 will participate in mock examinations. These will provide our students with an amazing opportunity to experience examination conditions similar to the IBDP and HKA High School examinations that will take place in May. They will also provide students with valuable insight as to their own areas of strength as well as highlight gaps in knowledge and areas of work that need to be improved upon.
In the spring there is a focus on preparing for final examinations as well as transitioning from HKA to the students’ next exciting chapter. In addition to finalising and submitting internal assessments and completing course studies, students will be preparing for graduation with senior photos, exit interviews, voting for a graduation speaker and practising the graduation walk and ceremony. In addition, seniors will engage in wellbeing activities focused on life skills such as personal safety, healthy choices and self management. In May we look forward to the Class of 2024 graduation – the culminating celebration for the community to wish our seniors well in their future endeavours as successful global citizens.
