UNIVERSITY AND CAREERS

Our comprehensive post secondary programme supports students to identify and pursue a range of opportunities after graduation.

Selecting a post secondary pathway is one of the major steps in a student’s educational journey. Starting in Grade 9, every HKA student is encouraged to consider their strengths as learners and where their interests might lie after graduation. Through a range of one-on-one meetings, small group workshops and evening events, students and their parents work together with our counsellors and curriculum coordinators to determine each child’s best-fit pathway to graduation.

As they approach their final year as students at HKA, students continue to engage in these personalised conversations to explore the variety of options available to them based on their interests and priorities for life after graduation. Whether they are applying for university, preparing for a gap year or beginning a job search, HKA students are encouraged to pursue their passions and interests as individuals.

COLLEGE AND UNIVERSITY VISITS

College and university representatives from around the world regularly meet with students, interested parents and counsellors through on campus and virtual visits. Students and their families are encouraged to attend presentations and university fairs to learn more about university systems in different countries, requirements for admissions and degree offerings. HKA alumni and former students are valuable resources to current students, sharing their experiences with the application process, relocation to various countries and transition into university life.

What is our child's outlook for university admissions?

HKA graduates are globally successful, securing placements at highly competitive universities and building international careers across a wide range of industries. Instead of pushing students toward a singular path or rigid rankings, HKA's post-secondary counsellors work with every student to shortlist their best-fit university options —identifying institutions that provide an appropriately challenging academic environment where they can genuinely thrive. The majority of our graduates recieve offers from their first choice university.

What specific university counseling support does the school provide?

HKA's post-secondary planning process begins in Grade 9, where students start analysing their unique strengths as learners and exploring their long-term interests. HKA provides a comprehensive, structured support system that includes:

Personalised Guidance: One-on-one meetings, specialised small group workshops, and informational evening events for families.
Active Collaboration: Students take the primary lead in researching, planning, and making decisions, closely supported by parents, teachers, curriculum coordinators, and the dedicated university counsellor.
Global Exposure & Networking: On-campus and virtual university visits from representatives worldwide. Families attend presentations and university fairs to understand different international admissions systems. Additionally, HKA's alumni network actively connects with current students to share real-world advice on application mechanics, relocating abroad, and adapting to campus life.

Do you assist with personal statements, interview prep, and recommendation letters?

As a truly international school HKA graduates often apply to more than one country for university. Each country system has specific platforms and application channels with a variety of personal statement, interview and letter of recommendation requirements which change periodically. HKA's post-secondary counsellors have experience of these systems, are well connected with many global institutions and keep abreast of current requirements and timelines. Each student has regular check ins with their post-secondary counsellor who supports them through the process of university application for their chosen destinations.
