An Introduction to Restorative Practices Building Stronger Connections, Cultures and Communities in Schools
Workshop led by: Kristy Elliott
Objective:
This two-day interactive workshop offers a comprehensive and practical introduction to restorative practices for all school staff. This experience will deepen your understanding of how to create a positive, inclusive and relational classroom culture-one that supports both student learning and wellbeing.
Who Should Attend:
K-12 Teachers, Specialists, Teaching Assistants, Wellbeing Coordinators, and Leadership Team members.
Key Discussions and Insights:
Grounded in the Restorative Pathways Model, the workshop is structured around four powerful cornerstones that bring restorative practice to life:
- Theoretical Insights – Understand the science behind behaviour, including trauma-aware education, child development, and motivation theory, to inform your everyday interactions with students.
- Conflict Navigation – Learn proactive and responsive strategies to handle challenges constructively, from de-escalation to restorative conversations that repair harm and restore relationships.
- Circle Pedagogy – Discover how to use community circles to build trust, connection, and student voice in the classroom.
- Enabling Systems – Explore how whole-school consistency, clear expectations, and visible supports can create a culture where restorative practices thrive.
Workshop Outcomes:
Participants will leave with the tools, mindsets and confidence to build respectful relationships, foster collective accountability, and contribute to a positive school culture— starting in their own classrooms.
