FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL
The first day of school is Monday 19th August for the 2024-25 school year. On this day we will run a full day schedule 8am - 3:10pm. Parents are welcome to join us from 8am - 8:30am for an open house to meet teachers and see learning environments, the PTCO is hosting a First Day Back coffee in the UG from 8am - 10:30am. We will run a regular schedule week with Wednesday 21st August ½ day dismissal at 12:20pm.
Our PreK-Kindergarten and Kindergarten will have a separate phase-in schedule. We will send you reminders, schedules, and class lists after 12th August.
ITEMS TO PREPARE
Please prepare the following items for your child(ren) to bring on their first day of school.
- A labelled water bottle.
- A labelled backpack.
- Healthy snack and lunch OR place your order with hkaEATS.
- An extra set of clothes (socks, underwear, top and bottoms) in a labelled zip lock bag which will be kept at school.
- Sunscreen and mosquito repellant in a labelled zip lock bag, which will be kept at school.
- A labelled sun hat, which will be kept at school. We encourage a safe sun policy so if your child doesn’t have a hat they will not be able to play outside.
HKA has a no single-use plastic policy. If your child is bringing food from home please place it in re-useable containers.
Our weekly schedule consists of many different things and part of that is seeing specialist teachers on a weekly basis. Please support your child in referring to their class schedule when packing their bag and ensure they come to school wearing PE kit and appropriate footwear on PE days.
STAGGERED START SYSTEM

At HKA we use a staggered start system for our Early Childhood (EC) students. This helps greatly with the transition to a longer day for these younger students. Please click the links below for more information. Your child's teacher will email you with your specific schedule and timeslot.
GET INVOLVED!
We believe the learning should be joyful, collaborative and deliberate and encourage parents to volunteer for a variety of activities such as cooking, reading, board games and unit related activities. Each HKA class has at least 2 class parents who work alongside teachers to organise parent involvement, more details will follow at the Back to School Night.
