NEW TO Secondary SCHOOl
We are very happy to welcome you to the HKA community. During the first few days at school your child will be receiving their class schedule, school laptop, locker combination and information on sports and after school activities. We expect all of our students to be independent problem solvers and encourage students to be proactive in asking for help before asking parents to step in. Students can ask their homebase teacher or come to the Secondary School office if they need support as they familiarise themselves with HKA schedules and opportunities.
NEW FAMILY ORIENTATION
All new students and parents joining HKA at the start of the school year are invited to join us for a New Family Orientation session., details will be emailed to you in advance. This is an opportunity to meet your child(ren)'s new teacher(s) and the Admissions Team will also be on hand to answer any further questions you may have. Our Tech team will be available for device setup and system support, hkaEATS will be on hand to help you set up your EATS account and school uniforms will be available for purchase.

Before students can start in the school, all required payments must be completed.
FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL
The first day of school is Monday 19th August for the 2024-25 school year. On this day we will run a full day schedule 8am - 3:10pm. We will run a regularly scheduled week with Wednesday 21st August as a half day, with dismissal at 12:20pm. We will send you reminders, schedules, and more information in August.
ITEMS TO PREPARE
Please ensure your child(ren) is prepared with the following items for their first day of school.
- A labelled water bottle.
- A labelled backpack.
- Healthy snack and lunch OR place your order with hkaEATS.
HKA has a no single-use plastic policy. If your child is bringing food from home please place it in re-useable containers.
Your child(ren) should come to school wearing the PE kit on the days they have PE scheduled. They should bring a spare set of uniform clothing to change into after the PE lesson.
Course Selections
In order for us to build your child's schedule, you will be asked to commit to a language selection and, in some grades, an elective choice. This information will be sent to you via email.
If your child is entering Grade 11 please contact the school as soon as possible at secondary@hkacademy.edu.hk to arrange a discussion regarding confirmation of Grade 11 course choices.
SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENT HOURS
7:50 am to 3:10 pm: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday
7:50 am to 12:20 pm: Wednesday
SportS AT HKA
HKA’s sports teams and athletes, known as the Dragonflies, participate in a number of sporting leagues in Hong Kong and across Asia. Information about sports seasons, team tryouts, training and match dates are shared throughout the school year. Learn more about sports at HKA here.
STUDENT ID AND COMMUNITY CARDS
HKA provides 3 community ID cards per household to allow parents/guardians, helpers and drivers access the campus. Please use your community card to tap in and out of the building and wear your community card lanyard at all times when on campus. Students will be photographed and issued with student ID cards during the New Family Orientation day or upon arrival.
