Grease School Edition

HKA’s secondary school transported us back to the 1950’s with two showings of the Grease School Edition musical last week. Congratulations to our actors, set designers, prop and costume team, light and sound crew and performing arts faculty for making the show a wonderful success!

A Kid’s Life

November 2023

All students in Grades 3-5 participated in the Primary School musical production, A Kid’s Life. Students showed great enthusiasm and dedication as they learned songs, contributed to choreography, and practiced their lines. They were supported backstage by Secondary School students and our all faculty live band. It was truly a great show!

The Addams Family Young@Part

The show brings iconic Addams family characters to life in a quirky family tale filled with laughter and thrills and is running on the 27th and 28th April. 

First Primary School Musical

Led by inquisitive archaeologists and their fossil friend, we explored the wonders of ancient civilization and met characters from seven different regions who built cultures, cities and inventions that helped form the world that we know today. Read more here.

There’s a Sunflower in My Supper

Every student took part in our very first Pre-K – G2 Musical Production, There is a Sunflower in My Supper. It was great to see our youngest learners perform with so much joy and enthusiasm was wonderful.

Cinderella

Southern School of Dance Presents

Once upon a time there was a young girl called Cinderella who lived with her evil stepmother, two stepsisters and their mischievous cat, Lucifer!  All day long Cinderella had to do chores; feeding the chickens, tidying up as well as sweeping and scrubbing the floors. Luckily Cinderella made friends with the mice and bluebirds who were always around to cheer her up!

One day whilst Cinderella was busy sweeping the floor, an invitation arrived inviting all the people in the land to a ball at the palace. Cinderella was very excited that her stepmother said she could go if she could find something to wear. The Mice and Cinderella got to work immediately. Just before they were about to leave for the ball the sisters snatched Cinderella’s gloves, beads, tiara and skirt so once again Cinderella was left in her rags and could not go to the Ball.

Cinderella was very upset and whilst the Mice tried to comfort her, she could not stop crying.  Suddenly something magical started to happen and the Fairy Godmother appeared. She turned the Mice to horses, the pumpkins into a Carriage, Lizards into footmen and Cinderella’s rags into a beautiful ballgown – Cinderella could go to the ball after all!

At the ball Cinderella meets the Prince and they dance together, but the magic only lasts until midnight. As the clocks start ticking Cinderella has to quickly leave and loses her shoe. The Prince finds the shoe and searches far and wide until he finds the owner.

Kindertransport

December 2021

HKA Theatre Teacher Darren Scully’s scholastic production of Kindertransport by the playwright Diane Samuels must be seen as a capstone achievement in a storied career. At HKA’s spectacular theatre this week, Scully has marshalled prodigious talent in acting, set design, music, visuals and production to pull off a stunning adaptation of Samuel’s painful and poignant recounting of mother daughter relationships set against the stark historical backdrop of the rescue of Jewish children from Nazi Germany. And So I Went

Valeria Riquelme graduated from HKA with an IB DP score of 40 in 2019. Having a passion for the performing arts, and with a view to developing her production skillset, she took an internship at HKA during which time she created and performed her first full theatre production, the one woman show “So I Went”.

NUTS

In a nutshell…. NUTS is a play about a boy who gets to house-sit a really fancy apartment for a rich and powerful family. The problem is that the word gets out and before too long, he is faced with decisions and dilemmas that get tougher and tougher as time unfolds. After a hilarious and light-hearted opening, the play suddenly turns very dark as characters turn on each other some ten years later as the location switches from the apartment to the prison cell in an authoritarian society. Sounds a bit nuts, right?! Full of twists and turns, this is a dark comedy that shows us how life can go terribly wrong based on the choices we make and…. don’t make.

In the 1940s England when children are being sent away to the country to escape the war four young children Peter, Susan Edmund and Lucy find their time in the country is far different than expected.

They walk through the wardrobe into a whole new world in which the utilitarian regime of an icy Queen of Narnia threatens to maintain a perpetual winter, and turn its residents into stone! All is not lost; whispers of a mysterious name can be heard on the wind as the rumours of the return of the true king of Narnia spread through the frost and cold.
Who is this mysterious Aslan, and will he come in time to save our heroes in this seasonal clash of myth and magic……Follow the quest of Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy to overthrow the pretender queen, and waken the enlivening spring!

Refugees are incredibly brave and resilient, but despite their perilous journey to survival, they are still being treated inhumanely, dismissed, and often looked down upon. RISE was started to bring our community together to Raise money and awareness, to Inspire others to take action, for us to Share our passion, and Express ourselves through the arts. Partnered with ROAD, Branches of Hope, all proceeds will be donated to support the refugee community of Hong Kong.
